Post by jschuldheiss »

Matt and Laurie Bolliver and the [i]Laurie M are your host and hostess Cruising Captains for a cruise to Cuttyhunk. This cruise is in concert with the Twenty Hundred Club's annual Terrell E. Cobb Memorial Cuttyhunk Race. Friday, July 10. Our Commodore, Steve Caldwell will leave on Friday aboard [i]Hitutilu to serve as support boat for EC Helm's [i]Spirit and crew who will race to Cuttyhunk. Saturday, July 11. Those of you who wish to participate in the race are encouraged to sign up. Here is the website for the NOR and SI.www.twentyhundredclub.org The race starts at 10:30 near Rose Island. All otherboats can sail/power over to Cuttyhunk and show support to [i]Spirit, meet new friends, and have a nice, get-a-way weekend. Moorings are $45 inside, $40 outside. Dockage and anchoring available also. Anchor inside by taking a sharp turn to starboard inside and anchor past the moorings. Outside can anchor outside the moorings. Spotty eelgrass in both areas, so ensure a good set. Sopranos has pizza in the evening. The Cuttyhunk Fishing club has a sit down breakfast. Coffee, fresh doughnuts, etc on the dock in the morning as well as ice cream, studies, oysters, chowder etc in the afternoon. There is also a small market. There is no alcohol for sale so BYOB Sunday, July 12 is the tentative return date. No race scheduled. Please RSVP to Matt at mboliver@cox.net or call 401-862-2305. _______________________ Commentary from Keith Healey: Kate and I spent a week on Cuttyhunk last summer. We rented an old Coast Guard house. I will share a little info we picked up. It is a very cool in the '"I just stepped off the world" kind of way. There are about 35 year-round residents and maybe 400-500 summertime. Coast Guard guidance advised that we bring most things we want to eat/drink with us. They were right. There are a few smaller options for food, with random hours and closing early. The market is also Cuttyhunk style. It is run by a family. Most of locals don't pay cash, just put it on account to be paid monthly Little House on the Prairie style. It is about the size of a small convenience store. They make great sandwiches and sell an assortment of luxuries like ice cream. Most of the residents get around by golf cart. Our Coast Guard billeting came complete with a Coast Guard logo-emblazoned golf cart complete with off-road tires.. it was cool. Sopranos does have pizza most nights. It is a restaurant run from the Soprano's house. There are picnic tables in their front yard. The mother and daughter are waitresses, son is the bus boy and dad is the cook. Good pizza. The Cuttyhunk Fishing Club does have breakfast. It is cash only and island prices. It is maybe 3/4 mile from the dock where we will likely anchor. Located on top of the bluffs with a beautiful view. It is actually a fishing club. It is basically a B&B where fisherman stay when they go on charters. The dock does have building on it with about a half-dozen small businesses, to include an ice-cream place, donut place (made fresh to order!) and chowder shack. There is also a food cart that will make things like burgers during the day. The island is dry so pack any beverages you will want out there. Hope that helps, Keith
