RHODE ISLAND BOATING SAFETY COURSE —  IT’S A RHODE ISLAND LAW

Rhode Island mandates that all persons born after 1 January, 1986 must complete the state’s Safe Boating Course in order to operate a boat with a motor greater than 10 horse power. In addition, all persons, regardless of age, operating a personal watercraft (jet ski) must complete the course.

The RI boating safety course qualifies as the ground school portion of the MWR Power Boat certification requirement and must be completed for qualification by persons born after January 1, 1986. Completing the course, while offering safety benefits to anyone operating a boat, may reduce boat-owner liability insurance costs (USAA and BoatUS may reduce premiums by as much as 10%).

Information on the RI State Boating exam is found at this link. Dates and Times of Exams are also listed there.
