Memorial Regatta 2026
32nd George Winslow Memorial regatta is in the books!
- The 32nd George Winslow Memorial regatta was run SA 15 AUG, and proved to once again be an excellent event for racers and club members. There was a great group on the line and attending the Awards/Potluck Dinner! Thank you to all participants and supporters for making this a wonderful club event and continuing the tradition! The community spirit, generous food contributions, easygoing fun, ….all really great!
- Four Shields and three Rhodes comprised the list of competitors. Light N and NW breezes with a strong ebb tide delayed the start, but the breeze backed to the SW and filled in and 8-10 kts for the afternoon and made for an excellent series. There was plenty of close competition for the pin-favored start, as well as boat-on-boat interactions throughout the three scheduled races.
- Winners in the Rhodes 19 class were Moyer/Vloudaki, separated by just 1 point from McDonald and crew in second place. In the Shields class, Fernberger/Schult handily won honors, followed by Deyett and crew, then Koplofsky/Hancher in a very close match-up, and Swift.
- Many thanks to the RC volunteers who stepped up (Mark Griffin, Randy and Rachel Baldwin) with an excellent performance to keep the races moving, and to our intrepid photographer, Matilde Pereira, who documented all the action (selected pics available on the web page, and event packages available for your boats directly from Matilde (tel. 401 616 0485)).
- I hope you plan on participating next year in this traditional event, even if you do not have an opportunity to race in the regular season.

Coasters Harbor Navy Yacht Club
CHNYC acts as the advocate for patrons of the Newport Naval Station Marina at Coasters Harbor and is organized to promote the enjoyment of recreational and competitive boating and sailing. We promote instruction and training in the skills necessary for patrons to have safe enjoyment. This is facilitated by our members volunteering to conduct training, organizing cruising, organizing social functions and being active in promoting both power and sail boating.
We are 200 of the most passionate folks in Newport when it comes to sailing and power boating with the Navy community. Members are active duty personnel from all services, veterans, retired or government civilians and their families. More than half of us own a boat and the rest use the 25 boats available for rent at the marina.
