Frequently asked questions:

When is Racing?

Racing starts at 2pm (1400) and ends at around 5pm (1700) from the 27th through the 1st.

June 28th is the first day of actual racing and 27th is the practice race day.

June 23 and 24 is our Sail Newport Youth Challenge at the America’s Cup World Series

ACWS Newport Village opens at 1100 Each Day…

Is the Bay Shut down?

Common misconception! NO! the bay is not shut down. The Safety Zone will be created by 1:30 (1330) on each race day and will be in place during racing.

Follow me boats will be on the west and north sides of the race areas in a southerly wind direction to help boaters transit from the north to the south during and between races along the west side of the shipping channel along the Jamestown shore.

Can I transit the Bay during Racing?

Of Course! The West Passage or Sakonnet River will be the best option for boaters wishing to bypass the racing as the East Passage will be very active!

Planning will make it very easy to get to BI, the fishing grounds or Elizabeth Islands.

Will I be able to see a lot from the Water?

Since you really can’t keep up with the boats, you are limited to what you will see by proximity (safety zone is fairly wide) and that you will be stuck at one end of the course.

Fort Adams Event Village is really the best place to watch!

What else is there to do at the Village besides watching racing?

Food Courts, entertainment, an Exploration Zone showcasing Rhode Island’s heritage in Ocean Exploration, Marine Trades, Education and Recreational boating! Jumbo Screens, live commentary and front row seats to the sailing are but a few of the reasons to join us on site at Fort Adams State Park!

Thank you all for your support of this important marine event in Rhode Island!

Sincerely,
Brad Read
Chairman of the Host Committee for the ACWS Newport
