Annual Cruise to Bristol for 4th of July Fireworks/Parade
Mike and Motria Benson, [i]Agape are your host and hostess Cruising Captains for the annual cruise to Bristol.
Friday, July 3, boats can sail up to Bristol (individual arrangements on where to leave one's boat), and gather at Redlefsen's Restaurant, 444 Thames Street, Bristol. Group reservation 6 pm. The owner, Jeff Guertler, may put us in a private room, depending on the number of people, and we can order off the menu (with a German emphasis) and have separate checks. After dinner, anyone who wants to can go across the street to hear the concert and watch the 4th of July firework show, or go back to the boats and watch the display from the water. It's always fun and exciting.
Saturday, July 4 is a real treat: first of all, watching the oldest 4th of July parade from the sidewalk in front of 4 Eagles on Hope Street is a spectacular sight. Cathy and Gary Holmstrom open their beautiful home to our yacht club, beginning as early as 7am for a buffet breakfast. The Holmstroms set out all the folding chairs they own outside, but if anyone has their own, if they get the chairs to the house the night before, Cathy and Gary can put those out as well.
At about 10:30 or so we adjourn to the sidewalk and watch the floats and marchers roll on by, waving and cheering. At the conclusion of the parade, another wonderful treat - a barbecue in the 4 Eagles backyard. After all, you work up a huge appetite cheering for all these marchers! When everything is cleaned up, the yacht club returns to the boats and either continues celebrating the weekend or raising sails for other ports.
Please RSVP to Motria at motriab@yahoo.com or call 904-471-3643 and let her know your plans regarding the dinner at Redlefsen's, and the number of people in your party. Also, for the meals at 4 Eagles, contributions for the breakfast buffet (fruit bowls, fruits of any kind (there can never be too much fruit), bagels pastries, muffins, coffee cake, etc.) are welcome. And for the lunch barbecue, Cathy will provide the main course and beverages - water and Gatorade. Contributions of any kind of salad, side dishes, appetizers, veggies, and/or desserts can also be used. Please bring your own adult beverages, and any soft drinks you may want. When you give me your July 3 reservation, also please let me know if you're bringing something for either of the feasts at 4 Eagles.
It's a great weekend, and a great time to be a CHNYC member!
