The Wednesday NOR for the 2012 season has been posted. Also attached below. Fleet Captain will hold a boat lottery, probably in April as the boats splash and standing rigging gets tuned. The SI will be available 9 May. The first race will be held 23 May. A practice race [not part of the Wednesday Series] will be scheduled on 16 May. Chuck

To sailors in the Rhodes-19 Wednesday Night Series fleet---- I've learned that 3 of the top 4 boats in the race which coincided with the NBYA Super Tuesday race run by Newport YC were affected by the wind shadow of Shadowfax. No protests or requests for redress were filed, but I wanted to post this FYI to help you with respect to the relevant rules: PART 2 - When Boats Meet (Preamble) "The rules of Part 2 apply between boats that are sailing in or near the racing area and intend to race, are racing, or have been racing. However, a boat not racing shall not be penalized for breaking these rules, except rule 23.1." 23 INTERFERRING WITH ANOTHER BOAT RRS 23.1 "If reasonably possible, a boat not racing shall not interfere with a boat that is racing." RRS 63.8 "A protest between boats sailing in different races conducted by different organizing authorities shall be heard by a protest committee acceptable to those authorities" REDRESS RRS 62.1 "A request for redress or a protest committee's decision to consider redress shall be based on a claim or possibility that a boat's score in a race or series has, through no fault of her own, been made significantly worse by:" a) RC error - not applicable b) "injury or physical damage because of the action of a boat that was breaking a rule of Part 2 or of a vessel not racing that was required to keep clear" THERE WAS NO INJURY OR PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE R-19, ONLY IMPAIRMENT OF THE WIND c) giving help - not applicable d) "a boat against which a penalty has been imposed under rule 2 or disciplinary action has been taken under rule 69.1(b)". The remedy to the situation appears to lie with protesting SHADOWFAX under RRS 23.1 and also requesting redress under RRS 62.1(d), the hearing for which should be held just after the protest hearing. And then===>what is the proper remedy? your position in the race when the interference occurred? avg. points? If you lost 1st place by 1 ft. can they award you first place? What is the MOST FAIR solution? This is an interesting topic. Please let me know if you wish to discuss it further..... Tripp
