CHNYC Mooring Policy

  • Moorings NC1, NC2 and NC3 are for the use of current CHNYC members and their sponsored guests. 
  • Mooring anchor weights are provided with suggested maximum boat lengths.  Since each boat responds differently to wind and waves, actual holding ability may be impacted and should be considered when using a mooring.
  • NC1 (500 lbs.) is recommended for boats up to 40 feet in length and is a keg mooring labeled NC1 in marker on the side.
  • NC2 (500 lbs.) is recommended for boats up to 40 feet in length.
  • NC3 (1000 lbs.) is recommended for boats up to 60 feet in length.
  • Moorings are available on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Guests of CHNYC members should have reservations (pending availability) 72 hours (three days) in advance. Exceptions to this policy can be made through the Commodore and/or Vice Commodore given special circumstances.
  • Use of the moorings is limited to three nights per month to give everyone a chance to use the moorings. There is flexibility and depending on mooring availability, staying on the mooring longer than 3 nights may be approved. 
  • Reservations require a $20.00 maintenance assessment fee for any mooring use in a 24-hour period commencing at 11:00 AM each day. Payment must be submitted through the CHNYC Mooring Fee page.  Adjust the quantity box to indicate the number of days (continuous 24-hour period, or portion thereof). 
  • Emergency services for the moorings is provided by the Newport Harbor Master.  CHNYC members or their guests may hail the Harbor Master via VHF Channel 16.
  • Launch services are NOT provided by the Harbor Master nor the Navy MWR Marina.
  • Rafting up to vessels on CHNYC moorings is NOT permitted.
  • CHNYC members only (if there are no reservations) are authorized to use the moorings on a ‘no reservation’ conditional basis for a 4-hour period or less. CHNYC member must inform the Marina Office for informational purposes.
  • Non-DoD guests must be sponsored by the host member. The host member is responsible for their guests and all applicable Naval Station Newport arrangements (Security/Gate Access, etc.).
  • The user of a CHNYC mooring agrees to assume all risks of use and to waive any and all right to any claims against CHNYC or Naval Station Newport. CHNYC makes no representation concerning the strength of a mooring.  The mooring must be vacated if winds exceed 40 mph. 
  • All boats must have a current registration/documentation and must be insured.
  • Use of one of the moorings due to unforeseen circumstances is permitted but as soon as possible, please contact facilities@chnyc.us to report/document use of the mooring.

CHNYC Reciprocity Policy

  • Members of reciprocal clubs that are listed in the Register of Yachting Club of America are welcome to reserve a CHNYC mooring. Reciprocal club agreements are available at the Register of Yachting Club of America website.
  • Reciprocal guests will list their current Commodore’s name and email/phone as the sponsor and put their club’s name in the comments section of the booking reservation list.
  • Reciprocal guests must have their home-based club membership card with them
  • Use of CHNYC moorings is limited to 3 days per month. Reservations (pending availability) are permitted up to 30 days in advance. Some dates such as July 4th and Salute to Summer are blacked out at the Commodore’s discretion.
