Women's Race Group Rhodes 19 Series @ Navy MWR Marina | Newport | Rhode Island | United States

The Women’s Race Group will continue again this year and invites women of all abilities and experience levels to participate in a non-spinnaker race group with the Rhodes 19 on Friday evenings. The Women’s Race Group is an educational and supportive group to encourage women to sail and introduce and enhance racing skills. All skill levels are encouraged to participate! There is no fee to join this group; boat rental fees will apply. The cost of the Rhodes rental is shared by the crews, often not exceeding $5 each.

Last year was a huge success and those women who participated had a lot of fun! Everyone learned new skills about
racing and practiced their sailing skills. Afterwards, many stay and enjoy camaraderie at the O’Club for dinner. Good friendships were formed last year that continued to meet during the winter months!

This is a program that introduces racing in a fun and supportive way. Racing experience is not a prerequisite. You do not need to be a qualified Rhodes skipper to participate; however, if you are interested in pursuing that, this program can help you with practice opportunities! For those women who are eligible, I suggest you take the sailing training course through MWR to help you with the basic skills. The women’s race group will give you additional practice in a fun and supportive manner. Come check us out!

Race dates:

    6/3, 6/10, 6/17, 6/24, 7/8, 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, 8/12, 8/19, and 8/26

The group meets at the marina by 4 p.m. Which allows time to assign boats, rig boats, and sail out to the starting point.

Races start at 5:30 and last about an hour.

Safety is always a consideration!
