Next week will mark the half-way point in our Fall Wednesday Evening Rhodes Series. In case you haven't been following the posted [provisional] weekly results at our Club Racing Kiosk at http://race.chnyc.org , we have 42 competitors racing in 11 boats. The competition is good - really good! Our first signal has been at 1730 on Wednesdays. Beginning on [u]4 September, the warning will be signaled at 1700 [1/2 hour earlier]. We are burning daylight and sunset is getting earlier. Our goal is to have enough daylight to get in a race that is an hour long before the time limit kicks in. My suggestion [not a rule] is for each boat to carry a flashlight aboard. If we have to tow boats back to the marina, you can shine the light onto your sail to make it easier to find you. Two regattas are still to come. CHNYC is not the Organizing Authority for these events but we help to make them successful. Special Olympics Rhode Island Regatta is scheduled for the weekend of 14-15 September. They need volunteers to pull this off - lots of volunteers - both ashore and afloat. SORI trains on Thursday evenings. If you want to help, stop by the marina on Thursday evenings and get involved early. Talk to Michelle or Winston. Naval War College - President's Cup Regatta is scheduled Friday 20 September. Although you may not be eligible to be a competitor [read the Notice of Race], you can volunteer to help with race committee. Contact Ron Oard, the PRO for this regatta.
