Overall very unclear??? Need to clarify the real differences between Member and Associate... Thanks, MikeWhat does "only for active participation by individuals in the organization's activities..." really mean?

Mike,
When we discussed this between the Executive Board members, it was intended to allow folks who are active in club activities (e.g. race on Shields or Rhodes crew, crew PHRF for members, help with training or race committee, help organize the social events, etc.). It is a way to recognize that these people can contribute to the mission of CHNYC and support the organization. Because it requires sponsorship by a member and approval by a member of the Executive Board, it precludes somebody from walking off the street saying "hey I want to join a Navy yacht club". It also is not automatically renewable. Each year the same requirements for sponsorship and Executive Board member approval are required.
We also wanted to make sure that the governance of CHNYC did not change. Associate members may not be a member of the Executive Board (as defined in the by-laws) and are not allowed to vote on any changes to the by-laws.
